Nuts

I think I'm sick of bananas.

A few months ago, I started trying to eat one a day to prevent my legs from cramping up at night. (My dad said something about potassium being some kind of anti-leg-cramping wonder-mineral. Who knew?) (Probably lots of people who've gone to medical school. Or read books.) (It's enough with the parentheses already, huh?)

Anyway, it worked. I have been leg-cramp-free. But now it's like taking medicine. Just the sight of 'em is starting to creep me out.

I think I might have a good solution, though. My gorgeous wife makes a mean banana bread. Wonder if the potassium works still works if you eat bananas in loaf form. Your input is welcome.

  1. Always have the same problem during football referee season and had the similar experience of TOO MANY BANANAS. To break up the cycle of daily bananas, I tried banana chips as a good afternoon snack. As to the bread, I believe that the science shows that it will work as long as its not banana nut bread. (Ummm, take that last advice with a serious grain of salt!!!!)

  2. You can also take a couple of Tums before you go to bed - they have potassium and work as well.

  3. Cooool! Thanks for the suggestions, both of which I like. As noted in an earlier blog entry, I do love Tums, and eating bananas in chip form does sound like a good break from the peel-and-mush version.
    Everything is better in chip form -- chocolate, potato, carob, tortilla. Well, except for cow. Ha.

  5. Bananas in any form is still potassium, genius. However, I think too many banana chips may upset your delicate stomach. So, let your gorgeous wife continue making yummy banana bread - and then move east so we can enjoy them too! xo, your favorite sister who still can't remember her blogger id.

  7. you can also make smooothies, in the smoooothie maker! leg cramps are also often a source of unrecognized dehydration. make sure to drink 1-2 liters a day at the minimum!
